DO OR DIE FOR US WORLD CUP QUALIFYING? YOU BET!

The US Mens Soccer team plays El Salvador today in a World Cup Qualifying match. The question is, is it a do or die game for the United States? With four games remaining, the US is presently barely holding onto the third guaranteed qualifying spot for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa. They trail Costa Rica by two points and are tied with Honduras. Mexico looms only one point behind both the US and Honduras. Mexico plays group leader Costa Rica as well on Saturday, in Costa Rica. The US plays two games in 5 days. Tomorrow’s match is at Rio Tinto Stadium in Utah and Wednesday’s game is against Trinidad & Tobago there. Are these next two games do or die? You bet they are. If the US does not win both games and pick up six points, they will probably be knocked out of the 2010 World Cup. They are playing the two weakest teams in their group. It would be unconscionable for them not to qualify for World Cup 2010. And to make matters more interesting, they will have to play the El Salvador game without their two best defenders, Oguchi Onyewu and Jay DeMerit. Saturday’s game will be on ESPN Classics at 5pm, West Coast time. It is time for the US Mens National Team to start playing to their potential. I am tired of them always playing catch up or uninspired. Lets hope the fellas come out with some energy and heart and place themselves as the front runner of the group for South Africa 2010. I perish the thought if they don’t.

BRETT FAVRE IS A MEDIA WHORE

Brett Favre is a media whore. There I said it. Most of you are about to raise your fists at me in anger and argue and complain. The only other person more of a media whore than Brett Favre is President Obama. Favre has tarnished himself and his legacy by his actions this past season and now this season. With his grandstanding and media whoring about whether or not he will come out of his 5th retirement for “one” more season, says it all. And all of this posturing the past three months about whether he will return was just media whoring. He knew he was coming back. So did the Minnesota Vikings. Who were they kidding? And all the time Mr. Favre sat back and reveled in the lavish attention heaped upon him. I thought I was going to throw up when I saw TV coverage of the helicopter following his car to the Vikings facility from the Airport. What has Brett Favre ever accomplished to garner that type of media attention? Cure Cancer? Cure HIV? Solve World Peace? No. He plays football. He was pretty good at it once. Notice the word “WAS.” The Vikings will do well, especially since they play in a division that guarantees 4 wins against lousy opponents. And for those of you who say I am a Favre hater. You’re wrong. He should and will make the Hall of Fame, by what he accomplished as a Green Bay Packer. Last year as a Jet and this year as a Viking will do nothing to diminish his hall of fame credentials. However, his legacy is not what it once was. He no longer walks on water, like he did as a Green Bay Packer. And the “Schism” he has created in the locker room is proof that not everybody enjoys his media whoring. The Minnesota Viking players, who welcome Favre with open arms, will soon be wondering what went wrong, just like last years New York Jets players. If you listen to what the Jets players say about Favre now, it won’t be long until the schism in the Vikings locker room gets worse. Especially when Favre doesn’t have to stay in the same team hotel, or has use of his own private locker room. Even with 4 guaranteed wins, the Vikings will be lucky to finish 8-8 if Favre starts all 16 games. Favre is over the hill. Not only is he over the hill, he has lost his desire and fire to compete. His sole purpose of playing for the Vikings is to spite the General Manager of the Green Bay Packers. Championships are not won by players who put themselves above the team. Ask the Cowboys and their T.O. experiment. Favre could care less about the Vikings as a team or as an organization. He is only there for himself and his selfish media whoring. For those of you, who think I am way off base, don’t forget to write me after Christmas and tell me that I was right.
